Tioga Downs Casino Resort

Conference Description

The American Heart Association estimates that 120 million + people in the U.S. are living with cardiovascular diseases; this includes heart disease, stroke, heart failure and hypertension, or high blood pressure. Cardiovascular disease remains the nation’s leading cause of death and disability, a ranking they have held since 1921.

Similar to national rates, the prevalence of cardiovascular disease continues to greatly impact the population Guthrie serves. Due to the burden of cardiovascular disease, Guthrie’s cardiovascular health practitioners have joined forces to provide an update on primary and secondary prevention strategies along with an update on the breakthroughs in the diagnosis and treatment of most frequently encountered cardiovascular disorders.

This event will focus on practice guidelines and breakthroughs that are most relevant to the entire medical community, with emphasis on prevention and appropriate choice of diagnostic and therapeutic means.

We hope to attract the medical community to this “patient-centered” interactive educational experience.

Intended Audience

This conference is designed to provide an update in the diagnosis and evidence-based management of cardiovascular disease for primary care providers. Emphasis will be placed on building primary care-based skills and recognizing when to treat and when to refer. Others that will find this program valuable include medical specialists, advanced practice providers, registered nurses, cardiovascular fellows, residents, medical and nursing students, and other allied healthcare professionals who would like to increase their knowledge base regarding cardiovascular disease.

Guthrie Women in Medicine

Our focus will remain on Guthrie’s vision “Improving Health Through Clinical Excellence and Compassion; Every Patient. Every Time.”

find this program useful include nurses, medical and nursing students and other healthcare professionals who would like to increase their knowledge base regarding mentoring, disparity, mutual respect, and other current medical issues.

Primary Care Symposium

Friday, September 27, 2024
Harbor Hotel, Watkins Glen, N.Y.
Registration and Conference Information

Primary Care Symposium

Conference Description

The broad scope of the primary care physician’s practice incorporates management of acute, undiagnosed illness and complex, multi-system disease, as well as the provision of extensive preventive care and general health promotion. In addition, because primary care physicians are most often the first medical provider contacted by a patient, the daily clinical challenges require a distinct approach and special skills in eliciting concerns, focusing key issues, negotiating plans, and helping solve problems, Primary care physicians also need to actively collaborate with referral specialists and coordinate the care given by varied specialties. All this is firmly based in the context of a patient-physician relationship built on mutual trust and knowledge. This important CME symposium “Hot Topics for the Primary Care Provider” will educate and promote improved patient outcomes in a broad range of therapeutic areas commonly encountered in the busy primary care practice. In addition to an overview of the history, current science of a variety of specialty areas and new and important medical advances, most content will be presented in a very practical, patient focused manner relevant to the specific primary care setting and challenges.
